I’ve been lifting casually for about 6 months and recently got interested in powerlifting. I mainly want to get stronger, but I also want to build muscle. Can powerlifting help with both?
Definitely. Heavy compound lifts like squat, bench, and deadlift build a lot of strength and muscle together if your nutrition is good.
Powerlifting is excellent for building overall strength, but don’t ignore accessories and recovery. The main lifts are important, but balance matters too
I switched from bodybuilding-style workouts to powerlifting last year. My strength improved fast, but my recovery took longer because the workouts were heavier
That’s what worries me a bit. My lower back gets sore after deadlift days.
Some soreness is normal, but constant pain isn’t. Check your form and avoid maxing out too often. Beginners usually go too heavy too quickly
I agree with this. I used to think every workout needed a PR attempt. Once I focused more on technique, my progress improved
People forget that powerlifting is a marathon, not a sprint Small strength increases over time are what really matter
How many days per week do most powerlifters train?
Usually 3–5 days depending on recovery, experience, and goals. Beginners often do well with 3 solid training days focused on the basics
Also don’t underestimate food. My bench stalled for months because I wasn’t eating enough calories or protein
