Why do I keep gaining weight even when I eat healthy?

Eating healthy does not always mean you are eating fewer calories than your body uses Weight gain can happen because of large portions calorie dense foods liquid calories reduced daily activity stress poor sleep or normal water fluctuations A sustainable approach is to focus on portion sizes protein fiber regular movement sleep and overall calorie balance rather than only food quality.

Eating healthy is important but it does not always mean you are eating fewer calories than your body needs Foods like nuts avocado peanut butter whole grains and healthy oils are nutritious but can still be high in calories Large portions can create a calorie surplus even when your food choices are healthy.

Sometimes the weight gain is actually water weight rather than body fat Eating more salt consuming more carbohydrates hormonal changes intense exercise and changes in hydration can temporarily increase your weight.

Healthy snacks can add more calories than you realize Nuts protein bars smoothies granola and nut butters can be nutritious but eating them frequently or in large portions may increase your total calorie intake.

You might be eating healthy during meals but drinking extra calories throughout the day Sugary coffee drinks smoothies juices and other calorie containing beverages can add up quickly without making you feel very full.

Another possibility is that your activity level has decreased Even if your diet has stayed the same you may burn fewer calories if you sit more walk less or have a less active routine.

Stress can also affect eating habits and body weight When you are stressed you may experience stronger cravings snack more often or sleep poorly These changes can make weight management more difficult.
