But when it comes to coffee vs. energy drinks, the choice isn’t just about taste—it’s about how your body responds, your long-term health, and your daily performance.

Both coffee and energy drinks rely on caffeine to increase alertness, but they’re far from equal. A typical cup of brewed coffee contains around 96 mg of caffeine per eight ounces, offering a relatively consistent and predictable boost. Energy drinks, on the other hand, can vary widely in caffeine content. This variability can make energy drinks feel more intense and less predictable, especially for those sensitive to stimulants or prone to anxiety.

Beyond caffeine, the differences become even more significant. Coffee contains natural antioxidants and polyphenols, compounds linked to improved heart health, increased longevity, and even a reduced risk of certain diseases. In contrast, many energy drinks include added sugars, artificial sweeteners, and chemical additives, which may negatively impact your metabolism and overall health when consumed regularly.

We get a lot of joy from watching our birds come and go from our gardens and feeders—especially in winter when they’re welcome signs of life in our yards. But birdseed isn’t the only food you can provide.
